You Were my Rock

You Were my Rock

There is a stiff chill blowing,
Sending icicles down my spine.
Today like no other I miss you.

Had I said all those words,
That made you feel loved?
For you, in that affable way,
Had shown me all I’d ever,
Need to know about being happy.

And then came the darkness,
No light, poor hope of rescue.
Do you hear my love coming,
When my dreams flow out?
Across the great divide now,
Where I pray that you know.

It is hard to be without you,
For you became my rock.

Not that I had given up,
Living life, always to the full.
But upon you I could rest,
Knowing you’d stay to comfort me.

And then in the still of the night,
My heart was beating our rhythm.
Soul mates reunited, and poetry in motion,
When our song was sung unitedly.

I had planned to build castles,
Of more than air, of dreams.
Our being together was as glue,
Melding our very souls together.

But I will not regret you.
Nor forget this love you brought.

And as these waves of loneliness come,
I’ll remember, you were my rock….
