Duck Racing
All at once upon the waters now,
A family of ducks race by.
The splashing and delighted children,
Are no doubt something they spy.
They surge across the rippled green,
In hope of food to share,
Though the excitement becomes wasted,
As they find no comfort there.
Then up the bank towards me,
The mother leads her young,
But I also have forgotten bread,
They’ll need still to journey on.
As one they leap and scurry off,
Another source they have spied,
And race into the great beyond,
Their hunger cannot be denied.
