Café com leite e pão de Queijo

Café com leite e pão de Queijo

‘The pride of Mina Gerais’.

On the praça de Tiradentes,

Capoeira draws a crowd,

A symbolic rebellion to music.

Ancient echoes of gold fever,

Long past, filter all about.

A city new but steeped,

Both in history of blood,

And marauding empirical greed.

The present face has toiled,

To a pride of simple fare.

Café com leite e pao de queijo,

Are as never before a symbol,

Of hope and of a new age.

The ‘Mineros’ carry their pride,

Like a golden breastplate,

Made from Ouro Preto stone.
